| subject: | Re: [OS2HW] Nvidia driver |
I had the expensive German card (Elsa) with this video hardware. All the
Scitech's Display Doctor versions were fine with it, but every version
of SNAP hung on booting, no matter how meticulous I was about
installation, both IBM licensensed SE editions and full blown SNAP. So I
stayed with Display Doctor.
6 months ago I happened on a generic version of the card with the same
Riva TNT 2 video hardware in a Winbox. I swapped cards, figuring that
Elsa would have gone bankrupt sooner than it did if it didn't run on
Win. I was right about both drivers and systems, and am using the
generic TNT2 card right now.
I was able to get the native Nvidia/Riva driver on Hobbes to work with
the Elsa, but some absense of acceleration had the screen being redrawn
in slow motion. IIRC, I was not able to get that far with generic GRADD
with SNAP.
Here are lines from my config.sys:
DEVINFO=SCR,VGA,K:\OS2\BOOT\VIOTBL.DCP
SET VIDEO_DEVICES=VIO_SVGA
SET VIO_SVGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA,BVHSVGA)
DEVICE=K:\OS2\MDOS\VSVGA.SYS
SET GRADD_CHAINS=C1
DEVICE=K:\OS2\GRADD.SYS
SET GREEXT=SDDGREXT
SET C1=SDDGRADD
DEVICE=K:\OS2\SDDHELP.SYS
REM SET SDDFONTSIZE = [small | medium | large]
SET SDDFONTSIZE=large
REM SET SDDFONTDPI = [96 | 120]
REM SET SDDICONS = [small | large]
and here are some other notes, from some authoratative source:
REM IF SDD fails to boot: 1. Boot to an Alt-F1/F2 command prompt mode.
REM 2. Edit CONFIG.SYS file. Change C1=SDDGRADD to
C1=GENGRADD,SBFILTER REM Remove the line "DEVICE=x:\OS2\SDDHELP.SYS".
REM Remove the line "SET VCFG_NO_DDC=TRUE".
REM 3. Delete or rename the x:\OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file.
REM 4. Shutdown and reboot your system.

On: [OS2HW] Nvidia driver
[echoed below, at least in part]
-oOo-
Switch hard drives to different motherboard with a Nvidia Riva TNT2 Pro
32mb agp video card.
Unsuccessful trying to install a driver for it. Tried 3 drivers with
varying results:
sp22077.exe latest Nvidia gradd driver from Hobbes
Black screen upon boot.
128tntb5.zip older gradd driver from about 1999
Boots to corrupted screen with some color on upper half
sddse 7.04 driver
Black screen on boot at the point where desktop should appear.
Each time system was set to VGA first. Below is from config.sys.
Nvidia drivers changed the
Set C1=nvgradd line, otherwise similar. Changed mouse as there had
been issues with SDD. No difference.
SET GRADD_CHAINS=C1
DEVICE=G:\OS2\GRADD.SYS
SET C1=SDDGRADD
SET VIO_VGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA)
SET VIDEO_DEVICES=VIO_VGA
Any ideas on this?
