From: "John Beamish"
A *constant* debate with V (Valerie ;-) ). I take the position that the
book is the author's telling of the story and the movie is the director's
telling of the story. One approach works well when the mind is conjuring
up the background images, scene settings and "music" or
"voice". Those approaches aren't necessarily appropriate for a
visual tale telling so things like "character backgrounders" and
"getting inside the protagonist's thoughts" will invariable lead
to the same story being told in different ways. V simply wants the movie
of the book.
