Thanks for the URL. I didn't go looking on Google - was just recalling
things I've seen on various tech sites over the years. None went into
as much detail as your URL though.

The video memory is probably _never_ used up in an OS/2 or eCS machine,
as very few 3D apps requiring texture mapping (and taking advantage of
the video card's RAM) even exist, if at all.

I would think the best you're going to see used is 3x the page frame to
display a static frame. 1024x768x24bit = 2.25MB x3 (triple Z-buffer) =
6.75MB of RAM used. Depends on the card, the driver used, and the
support level of the graphics chip.

Now if you dual-boot to Windows or Linux or some other OS that uses the
full 3D acceleration of the card and stores textures and such in video
RAM, you'd give the card more of a workout, and perhaps the AGP aperture
setting would actually matter. :)

In a machine with less than 4GB of physical RAM installed, it wouldn't
make a bit of difference what size the aperture is set to, as the GART
will assign addresses above the physical limit of the installed RAM for
its maps, if I'm reading that right. Highest aperture I've seen thus
far is 256MB.
