Richard, I have seen the designs of making tile grinding tools with
dental stone, as shown in your
photo. Tiles are placed on the face of your mirror,( curve is already
generated) and dental stone is
poured into a mold, etc...
Well this is the same way I made my grinding tool, to start
with. I made an error when choosing tiles. The tile I used was too soft and
inferior. So after rough grinding through some 80grit and alot of
120 I had about a 1/16" of tile remaining on the face. Well I knew
this was not going to get it done, and
if I replaced them now I at least could stay on 120 to get the surface of
the new tiles to match my
existing curve.
New "hard" tiles were epoxied on the face of the tool. It has worked
fine until water finally worked it's way under the epoxy of one tile on the
outside of the tool. I noticed a "drag" while grinding at 25 or
15mic and couldn't figure out what it was. It was the tile comming loose
from the surface of the stone.
I removed the tile and cleaned all areas down to the dental stone and
to the edges of the other tiles
and have had no problems since. I was advised that glueing it back on would
cause problems,
I sure you can understand why. So Richard, that is how a tile can come off
a grinding tool....
                                                                        RUSS
JOCOY....hope all your spheres come true
