A number of years ago there were gyro-stabilization units for hand-held
SLRs and movie/video cameras. I'd expect them to be OK for binocs and
small scopes. Might even be beneficial for small to moderate scopes,
unless they were strong enough to fight the movements of tracking.
Never could afford one, and don't know what happened with them.

Subject: ATM Gyroscopic stabilization of small telescopes?
Hi all! I'm new to this list, and would like to know:
Has anyone tried to gyro-stabilize a small telescope, say a 4" to
6" RF Newtonian so it can be handheld? I've looked on google and
searched the ATM archives.
I got Canon 10x30 IS binoculars for Christmas, and now I have a case of IS
apeture fever : )
Thanks!
-Jeff
