Re: Best terminal for BBS By: Rob Swindell to Dimitri Papadopoulos on Thu Feb 26 2009 06:25 pm > HyperTerminal *comes with* Windows XP. I'm not sure why you didn't try it. True, HyperTerminal comes with XP, amd I did try it. My issue with that one is that my screen resolution on my desktop computer is 1280x1024 and when I telnet to a BBS at 80x24 ANSI, the 'telnet terminal' is just a quarter of the screen. I tried also other Telnet software which ran in a sort-of-a-DOS window in XP, but when I tried Full-Screen, the text seemed bizare. Today I discovered RIPtel 3.1, and when I've put it in Full-Screen, I was amazed. Every single pixel of screen is dedicated to the BBS telnet. - From top to bottom & from left to right. No windows menus, status bars, title bars, minimize or maximize buttons. It's a plain good 80x24 full-screen with clean looking text in both CRT and LCD. (and can display RIP screens when available). There's also an option to run RIPtel in "windowed" mode. (like HyperTerminal and the many others) Anyway, I like it, and I just wanted to share my experience. I guess that there are different tastes out there with options to serve all. I just like the idea that I can have a real 80x24 full-screen ANSI in a Telnet session, just like I used to have in the DOS days. (and/or real EGA/VGA RIPs when available). --- SBBSecho 2.12-Win32* Origin: Diamond Mine Online -- bbs.dmine.net (1:275/89) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/250 18/200 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 140/1 222/2 226/0 SEEN-BY: 236/150 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1410 1411 1418 SEEN-BY: 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 396/45 633/104 260 267 285 690/682 734 SEEN-BY: 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/100 105 200 303 2905/0 @PATH: 275/89 100 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
