Well, one way to do that is to show an existing party which way you are
prepared to vote.
I recall Mary Sue Terry in Virginia saying "I've got all the right
enemies, including the NRA" when she was running for governor
Her opponent, George Allen, developed a strong affection for the NRA --
and cleaned her clock.  She didn't even carry her home county. :-)
