I confused you with 2 different issues, I guess.
First, the modem is apparently set up properly, because I do get
consistent 28.8 or 31.2 connections with a set of modems I KNOW are
compatible.
Second, I use other BBSes, only a few of which have 33.6 modems. On
those connections, where DSZ is the transfer protocol, I have a log of
connect and transfer rates. It is only this DSZ.LOG where I compared
the connect vs transfer rates, and it is there where the 31.2
connections show slower average transfers than 28.8.
