I haven't seen much discussion in here about Word 97. Everytime I re-read the
new features, I think "ho hum". One of our more skilled word processing
persons just received Office 97 on his new PC at home. He uses Office 95 at
work and is quite proficient with it. I asked him what he thought about
Office 97 and he said he hates it. I asked him why and he specifically
mentioned the toolbars. He said its very difficult to see what the buttons
do, since they are grayed out, until you move your cursor over them. He
specifically mentioned the text justification buttons as being very difficult
to see.
I think this is one of Microsoft's dumber ideas and cannot see how it came
out of their useability labs.
It appears to me that Office 97 may be one of the growing trends in software
-- change for change sake to keep the revenue generation at a constant pace
from installed base of users.
