IIRC, audio-technica equipment uses a polarity that's reversed from
the stuff that's standard in the US.
I would guess that this kind of thing goes back to the origin of
balanced circuitry, when people in one country would do things one way
and people in another country did it the other way.  And now there's a clash.
And the only people who are driven crazy by it are techs who have to
put together a show and keep track of what cable adapts what mic.
