Tapes here are still around the US$1.30 - 1.50 mark. Sony, TDK and SKC take
turns at being loss leader.
I don't plan on buying any new VCRs. As they die, I'll replace them with
DVD recorders or PVRs. DVD recorders are now the same price as my two
newest VCRs were when I bought them (about $US300), and VCRs are down to
US$50. DVD players are US40 or less. PVRs (DVD recorders with hard disks)
are still in the US$1000 to US$1500 range. In general, the same technology
is available here as in the US. For example, plasma TV sets are last week's
technology here - 30 inch LCDs are the current hot item. We tend to have
smaller living rooms so smaller sets are more popular.
