These errors are most likely caused by your by your hard disk as it writes
the data it received from your modem.
Some comms programs like Terminate (eg.) can set RTS low while the hard disk
is writing to temporarily stop the modem sending data to the computer.
Do you have a 16550A UART in your COM port? This can also fix/minimise the
problem.
You might even want try using a FOSSIL like X00 or BNU with a 2k Tx/Rx buffer
and see if that helps too.
