NPðWilst cleaning out the barn, I found various gun stuff. So now I have
ðseveral questions for y'all.
NPð1. Found a garand clip with 30-06 ammo in it, but instead of bullets,
ðit's got what looks like red cement about 1/8 inch below the case lip.
ðAre these blanks or perhaps some special secret stealth type ammo?
ðPerhaps created during the Phoenix project and worth millions?
Blanks. They also can be used for launching rubber projectiles to
serve as tow devices for light line... Do not point at somebody and
fire as they can cause damage.
NPð2. Found several boxes of unknown age (presumed several years old at
ðlast) primers. Some complete with oil as oil cans had dribbled all over
ðsome of the boxes. So how does one tell if the primers are still good?
ðAnd is there a particularly good (see safe) way to destroy them if they
ðare not good or are dangerous? I would presume that bashing them with a
ðrock wouldn't be a good way.
No. More fun popping them with a hammer. But wear hearing protection.
If the box that they were in has not been contaminated with oil,
i.e., it is a clean box, the primers *may* still be good.
NPð3. Found an old can of powder too. Is there any way to determine if
ðpowder is any good still?
Load a few round with it. If it has been protected from moisture, it
should still be good.
NPðAnd for those of you who have been telling me to take my reloader out of
ðits box and start reloading shotgun shells, I just went to buy some more
ðshells. Nearly fainted at the prices they want for a box nowadays!
ðUnless the price of a bag (or do they come in boxes?) of lead shot makes
ðme faint worse, I'm going to have to start reloading. I've got
ðeverything except shot. Especially now that I cleaned out the barn.
Oh boy... The price for shot has climbed. But, reloading is still the
least expensive way to have ammunition.
