  Rob, I have just recently finished with 15 micron. I did not calculate my
time but   a little over two
hours sounds about right.  I had thought too early that I was done with the
15m and was ready to
start grinding with 9m . Well I grind on a barrel in front of my garage. It
was a nice sunny day and
I noticed little "stars" on the mirror from different angles
while the mirror was dry. With the sun bouncing off at an angle it was
showing the pits that were there by reflecting the light at different
angles.
  Needless to say I had to continue with 15m until I was satisfied most all
of the pits were gone.
        Rob, I am sure a bright light will do the same, reflected at an
angle. And use an eye loupe or
eyepiece to inspect the surface real close. It's easier now to get those
pits out than later.
                                        Good luck on your 16" and hope all
your spheres come true.
