| subject: | Re: [OS2HW] OT - Win dial-up |
Well it appears to me that you are connected to a local network as well as the PPP dial-up. The issue may be which "default" gateway is being used ! Although Windows is listing two default gateways - one on your local (192.168.1.x) network and one on your dial-up network, you can't have two "defaults" ! How does the IP traffic know where to go ?? The way it works (apologies if you already know this), is that when the IP Stack is given an address to transfer data to/from, it first looks at the address and if it is an address that is within the subm\net range of a network port on its system, it goes there. If the address it needs to go to is not within the range of any of the networks the system is directly connected to it goes to the default gateway and hope the data will then be correctly routed to the destination. I suspect the local network default router is being picked up here 192.168.1.1 rather than your ISPs router (also called gateway) at 65.138.114.86. As there is no path from you local network to the internet, you get no internet access. To prove this is the problem, simply disconnect the system from your local network, restart the system and see if then you have internet access. If this works, the way to fix this is to give your internal network card a fixed, not DHCP address. For example 192.168.1.20 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and NO Default gateway/router. Leave out any DNS and WINS entries as well - the system will pick these up from the ISP configuration along with the (correct) default gateway address. Cheers/2 Ed.
