I am not a woodworker, nor do I play one on TV, but I've had reasonably
good success with the following. On my 13" dob, I made the mirror box
by gluing up butt joints, then drilling 1/4" holes through the joints
and gluing dowels in the holes for added strength (angle the dowels both up
and down for even more strength). You can see the joinery on the two edges
