| subject: | New Couriers vs older Couriers |
I am currently testing a new Austel USR Courier which I have just received; it is a single board design, with different dip switches on the bottom (only single DIP switches, no large red switch). And when people talk about relays clicking, they haven't heard anything until they hear this one! Interestingly enough, the Austel permit number (A94/25F/0328) is different from the old Courier, but I'm not sure if that is from older v.34 daughterboard Couriers or not, as mine was upgraded from the Terbo model. There may be a slight problem with the new ones; it came preloaded with Supervisor dated 14 Nov 95 (061-6.2.2) and DSP dated 5 July 95 (1.2.2) and would not accept newer SDLs that uploaded ok on the older Austel Couriers, or the US SDL, so something must have changed in the firmware (which does mention the Australian bit). Needs more tests; noticed good receive rates (one step up from the older Courier) from system that uses my suggested string to fix transmit level at -11dB, but as I can't fix transmit level on my end, transmit levels aren't that good (one to two steps down). This Courier will be on-line until Monday (the 8th of April 96) morning if anyone wants to give it a try.
