Hello
Not to drag this out too far, but I agree on all points, cars and
opsys's. Because this is a computer oriented forum I'll just say that with
stick shifts "to those who know, no explanation is necessary, and to
those who don't, no explanation is possible". I don't want a car that
makes decisions for me nor do I want an OS that does so either. I'm not a
total windows hater in that I can't help but respect just how much it
supports and how effective it is in dumbing down for non-techie users.
There are still after many years trying just one or two lingering apps that
have no peer on other OS's, although Linux is catching up very quickly.
That said, if I had to choose one single OS between OS/2 and Windows
Vista I wouldn't hesitate a nanosecond.... it'd be OS/2 for certain, given
that limitation. I am admittedly drifting away from OS/2 simply because I
can do exactly what I want, under exactly my terms and at an incredibly low
investment since so much is free and the level of support and growth just
grows exponentially but without all the prying and backdoor usurping (and
outright refusal to do what it's told) going on in windows and OSX. Plus
it comes in so many flavors, blends of "automatic",
"hydromatic", and "stick". I really don't consider
Linux to be "bits and pieces" or overly complicated since that is
directly proportional to how much control you wish to exert, sometimes
within a single distro, but also in distro choice. Want auto - get
xandros. Want stick - get Slackware and beneath the hood they are nearly
identical. You just "drive" them a little differently.
