| subject: | USR Sportster, I`m impressed. |
-=> Quoting Tony Molina to All <=- TM> I'm currently borrowing a USR Sportster V34 so I did a quick TM> double blind test this morning from this problematic Tullamarine TM> line. TM> TM> However this USR Sportster V34 has blown me away in this test. TM> I'll be the first to admit I have no idea how it can manage to TM> stay online at 28,800 on this line where the others can't. TM> TM> Oh well, I'll keep testing but at this stage I am leaning towards TM> keeping this USR and selling the still excellent SimpleModem. I TM> guess I'll just have to put up with the USR's two cons. 1. Price TM> (it's pretty expensive) and 2. Styling (it's a damn ugly modem). Looks like you've discovered the advantage of having a modem with a decent datapump . The Rockwell based modems , i.e. hayes , simple maestro etc , have a datapump that is gutless , it only has enough grunt to decode 16 state , 4 dimension trellis coding . The USR ( courier and sporster ) have a datapump that can decode 64 state , 4 dimensional coding , and with room to spare , as the 33.6 upgrade proves . The extra power allows it to differentiate the signal from the noise , and allows extra throughput for the same signal to noise ratio . Welcome to the wonderfull world of USR :-) ... Not tonight, dear. I have a modem. ---* Origin: Melbourne PC User Group +61-3-9699-6788 (3:632/309) SEEN-BY: 50/99 78/0 620/243 621/525 623/630 624/300 632/0 107 304 309 315 318 SEEN-BY: 632/325 326 329 348 366 367 371 393 454 501 506 514 516 525 530 552 SEEN-BY: 632/998 999 1000 633/371 634/388 396 635/301 402 502 503 506 541 544 SEEN-BY: 637/103 639/252 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 899 932 934 712/515 SEEN-BY: 713/888 714/906 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 632/309 998 635/503 50/99 711/808 809 934 |
