I wasn't here at the outset of this conversation, but here's a reply. Hope
it's a good one... =-]

I'm not sure which part you call illegal, but I'll tell you what, it's
ALL unfair, unethical, and quite stupid. Why not lie to buy a floppy drive?
If we pirate already, what's lying? Nothing! Politicians do it daily...

I agree. I for one have baought many of the programs I have 'pirated'.
I recieved a copy of QEMM, liked it, and bought it. Same for Win95, DOS,
OS/2, many games, Office suites, programming tools, software utilities,
ect. I have pirated a lot of things, but right now, I own all of the
software I run (except for old shareware utils that are now PD, or no
longer being supported). I own it beacuse I played with it first, before
I sunk X amount of dollars into it first. Actually, a few titles I own
that I purchased before using I hate. I don't think any of those companies
are going to care that I used someone else's copy for a couple weeks first.
I paid for it soon after, and they got their money. Hell, since I work in
the computer sales/service field, it's my job to keep up with the latest
hardware and software. You can't copy hardware, but I get a lot of software
programs first, run them, then I usually get rid of them, but if a client
needs something in a category that I have used programs from, I suggest they
buy the one's I've tested and found useful. I probably MAKE the companies
more money than I've EVER cost. I sell thousands of dollars of stuff every
week, and I usually have used it before hand. They should THANK me for using
illegal copies first. Now I can recommend the titles I've previewed.
