Can anyone help me take a stab at identifying a generic 14.4 V.42bis
modem I recently purchased used? By generic I mean NO manufacturers ID
on any of the documentation, especially the manual.
I personally think it was made by The Complete PC, based on the fact
that the manual is the same size and basic color of my TPC Turbomodem, (128
pgs
vs. 130 or so. Both white with green trim, one with a stock # R0050201, and
the other R0050179.)
Still, being the snoop I am, I queried the modem and these are
the responses I got from it for my various probes.....
ATI0 242 OK
ATI1 104 FM-144HVBIS/R1 V1.68 OK
ATI2 OK OK
ATI3 E.C. Version : 7.1 Date code 921118 OK
ATI4 FM-144HVBIS/R1 V1.68 MODEM CHIP : ROCKWELL RC144DP FAX CLASS 1 AND
CLASS 2
OK
ATI5 FM-144HVBIS/R1 V1.68 MODEM CHIP : ROCKWELL RC144DP FAX CLASS 1 AND
CLASS 2
OK
ATI6 FM-144HVBIS/R1 V1.68 MODEM CHIP : ROCKWELL RC144DP FAX CLASS 1 AND
CLASS 2
OK
ATI7 FM-144HVBIS/R1 V1.68 MODEM CHIP : ROCKWELL RC144DP FAX CLASS 1 AND
CLASS 2
OK
ATI8 FM-144HVBIS/R1 V1.68 MODEM CHIP : ROCKWELL RC144DP FAX CLASS 1 AND
CLASS 2
OK
AT+FMFR? EXAR OK
AT+FCLASS=? 0,1,2 OK
The reason I'm interested in this is that I'm taking a stab at
putting BGFax on my system and noticed that some of the Rockwell modems
behave differently then thier cousins from other manufacturers and that
it all depends on who manufactered the modem. :-)
It looks to me like the best I can expect from this modem is
9600 baud in fax mode, and the usual 14.4 in data mode. I'm basing that
the Nov 28, 1992 date code on the Error Correction ROM.
Can anyone explain what EXAR means when I queuried the
datapump/chipset
with the AT+FMFR? command? It's not what I expected. Gotta love the total
lack of FAX command coverage in either manual. Nothing! :-)
                 Thanks in advance!
