I did the same thing a year ago.
What I do:
With a multimeter I measured the voltage between the pin 1 and 4 (of one row) on
the main board (1 is Gnd and 4 is Vcc, or vice versa, I dont's remember exactly.
The 5 usually is NC).
I get nothing, then I look very carefully in to the electric tracks in the main
board an I noted that the USB's pins are electrically connected to a two
mini-fusibles. I read the conductivity of them and I get "infinity" in the
multimeter. So I proceed to wire the fusible (with a very thin wire and a
soldering pen). After that I measured again the pins 1 and 4, and I get this
time 5vcc.

Then I search in the web (I like www.alltheweb.com) the diagram of the USB
standar connector (http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml) and I proceed to
attach the USB connector accordingly.

And I get USB working in my old PC.
