I'm wondering if my own CPU has some kind of problem. The temp suddenly
started climbing fast right after I heard a fan stop, at which point I
shut down. Later I started it up and it seemed to be OK except that the
temp was running a few degrees higher than usual altho not climbing.

I found a case fan out but the dust pattern from the grill on it looked
like it had been out for some time. And don't see how one case fan
would make the CPU suddenly climb about 15C in half a minute. It must
have been the CPU fan that quit.

Besides the new case fan I just put in a new high capacity cooler that
took the temp down from an average of about 56C to about 47C. If I
don't run the PS fan (4 inches) at its top speed the temp starts
climbing (more slowly).

I think this large cooler is meant for a different BIOS. It lists
online as having a 300 RPM - 2500 RPM range. This BIOS shows it at 2812
to 2860 all the time and I know it doesn't whine nearly so high pitched
(thank God) as the last one that was supposed to vary 2100 to 2700.
