Whatever works for you, Ray, is what you should be doing. I'm not into the
"techie" stuuf, either, really. I just ride. But, I do try to stay in tune
with what my body's telling me as to the way I ride. Shimano Biopace, BTW, is
chainrings that are not exactly round, but are designed around the way your
legs produce power around the pedal stroke. Most "racers" hate them, and some
say they're bad for your knees, but my knees have been thru some football,
and are kinda bad. Biopace seems to ease the strain on *my* knees.
Anyway, the important thing is that you're out there, riding, and getting
yourself into better condition (especially in those hills!).
Have fun, Ray!
