The first machine I tried Puppy on was Toshiba 2060CDS laptop...................WOW
 
That was my first re-action, but even later if I reversed that, it would
still be the same.

  I labelled this "OT" because I am going to suggest something of
a minor heresy here.  If you have an older laptop you really ought to try
"puppy linux" which is really quite amazingly fast even on old
440BX chipset lappies.  Fortunately you can try it before you install it by
installing an iso onto either a CD or a USB thumbdrive (assuming your
PC/Lappy is new enough bios-wise to boot from a USB drive) since the full
version iso is only around 68MB.  It also has considerable support on
blogs, websites, wiki, and forums.  Possibly something like this might
assist you in deciding for example to go with the higher quality but older
technology of a refurbbed IBM and save some cash w/o taking a performance
hit.
