It doesn't *require* libvga -- because you can always just look at the
source of libvga and see how it does what it does; then, copy that. :-)  
But going through libvga is a good idea. It *does* require root access,
unless you're using one of the new fbcons or kggi console devices. And it
definitely WON'T work the DOS way in Linux.
