subject: arrays within tables

Can somebody help this old cobol and c programmer out?

We have need of defining arrays within tables, ie, a table record will
contain a few independent fields, then a group of 50 identically defined
fields, that we'd like to process using incrementing indexes or subscripts.

The Paradox book for PDOXWIN 5 says "you shouldn't use square brackets" in
field names, and we see only a few references to arrays in the Objectpal
books, that don't necessarily help much.

So, our table records should look like this:

NameKey
Address
val[1]
val[2]
val[3]
.....
val[50]

In cobol, we would code something like
val occurs 50 times indexed by i.

Any and all help greatly appreciated!
