AW> Hi Linda,
LW> We have Neon, Zebra, Catfish, and another cleaning
LW> type fish in our tank. Every time I buy new Neon's
LW> which is what I prefer the Zebra attack them and I
LW> always lose a few. Do I guess corectly that these
LW> two are not compatible.
AW> I have read many times that zebra danios, (I assume you mean zebra
AW> danios), are peaceful community fish.
On the most part they are, but the zebras have a greater tendency
to fin nip then the other danios, a nip can seem like a attack, and
it might be, since neons and Danios like the top level
a bigger zebra danio may feel the neons in 'Its" territory.
AW> I have kept fish now for 35 years and have ALWAYS found zebra danios
AW> to be fin nippers. I've tried keeping them in shoals, I've tried odd
AW> pairs. Nothing really seems to work. I don't keep them with slow
AW> moving fish or fish with flowing fins, (which tend to be slow anyway).
You got the years on me ;-) only about 22 here, and I agree
on the fin nipping, I prefer the pearl/spotted over zebras,
I once got tired of one zebra which was a bad nipper,
and so moved it in with a Jack Dempsey ;-)))))))
Sometimes I wonder about some of the writers of some tropical fish
books.
