Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 is planned to have support for Vista. The main
problem at the moment with running Vista - I have downloaded and tried
to install the 2 point something gigabytes of RC1, is ACPI - if a system
(or a virtual system) doesn't have ACPI support it simply cannot install.

I would expect VMWare to add support to their range of products if they
don't already have it (I think Virtual Infrastructure 3 (aka ESX v3) may
already be able to run Vista). The other virtualisation companies will
have to follow suit.

Of course if one has a no-longer supported product, such as
Connectix/Innotek's Virtual PC/2, it wont get an update and hence wont
be able to run MS Vista ..... At least not the "normal" versions of
Vista. As they did with XP, MS intend to have a controlled release of a
very cutdown version of Vista for use in third world countries to run on
older, lower powered hardware. This probably won't have the ACPI and
other hardware requirements of the "normal" versions but will still use
Vista drivers and be able to run most applications - only those
requiring flashy graphics probably won't work.

This version (in either XP or Vista version), would make an ideal client
to run under virtualisation on a different OS, however Microsoft only
intend to make this available in India, Africa and China I believe. The
African version being in US English.
