Might that be a little hard on him, tho? I taught first grade - and most of
the academics were in the morning. There really wasn't much time for "being
social" except before school and morning recess (15 minutes). Afternoons were
for art and other more relaxed activities.
First graders do get *very* tired by noon, particularly in the early part of
the school year. During the first three to four weeks of school, I was
besieged by these questions: "Is it time for recess yet?" (This about a half
hour after school started). "Is it lunch yet?" (This when it was recess
time). "Is it time to go home yet?" (Said about 20 minutes after morning
recess ended.) This can be attributed to several things, mostly because they
were not used to being in school for 6 hours a day yet. (Kindergarten in that
particular district was a 1/2 day til Christmas, then they went to 2/3rds day
if I recall correctly!) The point of this paragraph is: he may be too bushed
to do much homeschooling if you bring him home at lunchtime.
