| subject: | [OS2HW] adding USB from the motherboard? |
Hi:
I am currently doing a stint of eldercare at my folks house and so I
cobbled together an old computer so I could have some minimum os/2
functionality while I'm here. Then I discovered I really could use
USB for transferring the files I work with here when I go back to
home. The computer doesn't have online access.
The Motherboard is a FIC VA-503+ (circa 1998), 166mhz, I think. It
has an onboard USB connector, 2 rows of 5 pins each. There are no
stores that carry the necessary HW to make this connection so I
robbed a connector from another old piece of junk I had laying around.
But it doesn't work.
I've activated usb in the bios, loaded usb drivers from 10.158 &
10.145 distributions. They are detected on bootup according to
the /v switch and according to usbcfg. So I believe my problem may
be the usb connector that I am using. I'm trying to use a thumb
drive, it works fine on 2 computers at home but here the activity
light does not come on and refresh drives does nothing.
The 10 pin connector is using only 4 of the pins. These terminate in
a little circuit board at the USB plug.
Does anyone know if 4 wires on the MB connector to the usb plug
sounds correct or maybe I am using a wire/plug that won't ever work
right.
Thanks, Jon
