| subject: | Best terminal for BBS |
Hi All, After trying a couple of Telter terminals for the Windows XP operating system, I settled with a program called RIPtel 3.1. I switched from SecureCRT. From a BBS user standpoint, it has been my observation, that nowadays most people run their display screen at high resolution (1024x768) and even at 1280x1024, like me. Running the built-in windows telnet terminal in 80x24 ANSI, is not practical, as the window will be too small. SecureCRT did a good enough job for me; but upon discovering today RIPterm, I don't think I would want to look back. It has the ability to run Full Screen at 80x24, properly display ANSI graphics and best of all, display RIP screens when available! For the first time I was able to fully enjoy BBsing on my Windows XP box as I did back in the early 90's ! It's very unfortunate that the company who made it abandoned it. I therefore had to look to "register it" from 3rd party places... :( I read that there's a group to promote BBSing, but one of the main issues is the software used to access ANSI BBSes. I beleive that this promotion group may want to approach the company who wrote RIPterm and ask them if it's possible to ge the source code and release it in the Public Domain (as RIPterm is abandonware), or develop something similar. It's simply the best Telnet ANSI/RIP terminal I came accross for a modern Windows XP Operating system. This terminal will help overcome lots of the issues current BBS users experience.
