TH> True infinity is the state in which there is no
TH> beginning and no end. Such rays are considered infinite because of the
TH> fact that they have a start point and no matter how big of a number
TH> you want to designate as the endpoint, the human imagination can
TH> always add 1 to it, and so on. So, for practical purposes it is
TH> considered infinite. However, what I am concerned with is not
TH> "practical" infinity.
WE> Consider a ray to the right and another ray to the left. Put these
WE> two rays together at their beginnings and you have a line, without
WE> beginning nor end.
William, you fail to understand that lines and rays, according to the
mathematical definition, do not EXIST. If a line is the infinite set of
points along a single dimension, then show me one. There isn't a piece of
paper large enough to draw upon it an infinite anything. The universe has
bounds that are expanding, but certainly not infinite. Nothing infinite of
infinite size or length can exist in the universe. Just try and draw me
an infinite line, ray, whatever. They are simply imaginary abstractions.
TH> Such conditions, like the ray scenario, arise because we are limited
TH> human beings, finite in our existence, scope, awareness, and linear in
TH> our existence, and we are trying to use our linear finite imagination
TH> to describe the infinite.
WE> Oh, so you admit that you can show me no infinity. Must I imagine an
WE> infinite something that is what we are discussing?
You have read the messages to this thread from the beginning. If you don't
understand now then I doubt you will. Go back and read them again - your
question was answered there.
TH> The infinite is not of our nature, so such
TH> scenarios as you have described are more the result of our
TH> limitations, and not on the actual existence of so called "half
TH> infinities" as you have tried to prove.
WE> You're right, the eternity of heaven and hell and infinite divinities
WE> are just our imagination.
Ahh, now I see. I haven't even mentioned God, except as a possible answer
among many. In fact, a while ago Richard brought up the God issue, and I
even told him that at this point in our ground-up exploration of existence
God cannot be considered any more likely than any other option. Maybe if
you would use your head and actually read what is being said you would
know that.
From your above statement, I can see that you haven't a clue as to what
is being discussed, but that somewhere you feel a need to automatically
go on an anti-God crusade without even understanding the concepts being
posed. Ignorance.
I trust that because of such, there won't be too many correspondences
between the two of us. That is truly sad.
