From the standpoint of a person living in the real world, 1024x768 is ancient.
That was the native resolution on most 15" LCD panels and older
(crappier) 17"
LCD panels. Hell, my last CRT monitor, a 15", was capable of at least
1024x768, albeit at a low refresh rate. 17" and 19" (non-widescreen) LCD
panels have been running at 1280x1024 for years, and the better 19" panels at
higher resolutions, not to mention larger screens and not to even begin to
delve into the widescreen displays that have been popular for several years
now.

Full-screen the window on a CRT and that problem goes away. You appear to be
living in CRT-land, so this should not be a problem for you.

Failing that, I sometimes think that the 80x24 limitation is a good one. As
opposed to a fully resizeable html document that can be busy with
advertisements and links all over the place (don't get me wrong, I like the web
plenty,) a BBS has to make some effort to fit useful information readably and
navigably into a small space. I like the simple, linear, menu-based,
monotasking environment that a BBS offers.

Full screen 80x25 textmode sucks on LCD displays. As much as I like BBSing in
full screen, I dislike the fuzziness of a cluster of LCD pixels trying to serve
as a single pixel. Perhaps if I lived in CRT country like you I would
appreciate this feature more.

RIP lived and died very quickly from what I recall. I don't think they're
bound for a comeback when a more graphical experience is available on the web.

mTelnet and SyncTerm are very good options - not sure about the RIP part, but
like I said, I think that's a dead mode.
