My POV is it is good for us because, in general, competition amoung equals
is good for the market.  If the combined AMD/ATI executes well, they will
be able to compete better against Intel.  Of course, only time will tell

At to how this helps eCS/OS2, I can't see any direct effect either. 
AFAIK, Scitech has a pretty good relationship with ATI so if this
continues support for AMD chipsets with embedded video should be good.
