Description: Give each student a copy of the worksheet. Each student
should interview a grandparent. Upon returning to school with the interview,
the students should write a story. The story could be written in third
person, or the student could write the story as if they were the grandparent
writing about him or herself. The story could be written in the student's
voice writing about their grandparent.
The students could write the story as if they were writing a newspaper
story and tell the story of a famous person...their grandparent.
Grandparent Interview
1. Where were you born?
2. When you were in fifth grade, how many people were there in your family,
including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins?
3. Describe your school activities and studies when you were in fifth
ade?
4. Were you a good student? What was your favorite subject? What was your
least favorite subject?
5. Tell me about two things we have now that you did not have when you were
in fifth grade.
6. What did you do for fun when you were in fifth grade?
7. What was your first job? How much did you earn?
8. Who was President when you were my age?
9. What songs were popular when you were in elementary school? Can you
sing one?
10. What is one piece of advice you would like to give children and young
people of today?
