WT> Oh CMON! I'm getting a little sick of your bash bash bash rockwell.
RB> Hey, I'll play your silly game.
I'm not the one who is lying.
RB> Ah, yes but there IS TRUTH in what I say.
Hardly any, you say rockwell based modems aren't capable of achieving
real 28.8k connects which get proper throughtput. You said they falsely
report a 28.8k connect. I said that's not true as I use my modem every
day and it works fine. I told you my average cps on a normal LAPM
V42bis connection is around 3260. I have E-V-I-D-E-N-C-E contrary
to what you have said. It's that simple.
RB> I admit, I can not fault the SupraFaxModem (Rockwell) for connecting
RB> and delivering at 28800 & 3300cps to USR's or anything else.
RB> But that is the only one.
Your opinion nothing more, you want to come over to my house and i'll
show you over 5 different calls to five different numbers in which I
can easily break the 3300 cps barrier. Come over i'll prove it to you.
RB> It can't be because of Their 64state trellis coding unless your
RB> modem also supports 64state trellis coding.
RB> ...NO ROCKWELL SUPPORTS 64S...
I'm not so certain of this. I think it's a spilt thing again like
connect speeds. I run the USR STATS MAXIMUS program and it says this.
| L | Trellis Code 64S-4D/16S-4D |
If my modem only SUPPORTED 16S-4D don't you think both modems would
be forced to 16S-4D? I think what happens is that the USR is encoding
at 64S-4D and receiving at 16S-4D while my banksia is on the vice
versa. I might be wrong but it has a nice ring to it.
RB> That is a feature of mnp4, be it on a rockwell or USR. Nothing to
RB> do with the brand of the chipset or modem.
Wrong, when I lock MNP/4 and send to a Courier, I only get around
3240 cps, same as normal, but when the USR sends to me, I can get
upto 3330cps depending on how well setup the modem is. Now again I
offer you to come and see this for yourself. Oh I forgot to mention
that when I force mnp/4 on a fellow rockwell modem the cps to and fro
remains at 3240 cps.
RB> You have not proof of how good your lines really are unless you use
RB> a Datascope (professional gear) or have a USR Courier (anyone can
RB> have one) both ends and use their Line Probe Diagnostic feature.
I do not need to, I have no problems. And I can always connect to a
USR running on maximus with the stat prog and get returns like this

*Note the modem used here was an ellcon not my banksia, my banksia
seems to have more grunt than this modem and it shows up on the stat graph.
RB> I am not really a "USR ZEALOT"
You admitted as much. Back in your previous message :)
RB> I have Rockwells & USR's

Look i'm dreadfully sorry to argue with you but I have a different
story. I'm sure the supra is great. I think you're just totally
blowing the proportions of rockwell's ineffectiveness.
RB> ALL OTHER ROCKWELLS either just do cosmetic changes to rockwells
RB> own controller or do nothing at all to improve their controller
RB> code over the other clone makers code
How would you know? "ALL OTHER ROCKWELLS" is a broad statement to
make. I think over recent times companies have been tinkering with
such things.
*Note all cps figures stated are with zmodem. Using the os/2 "P" V2.05
freeware protocol library.
