AC>IQ (tests) are an accurate measure of the kinds of cognitive
AC>abilities helpful to be a success in our society.
That is incorrect. IQ tests have been shown to be accurate predictors
of success in school, but they are not much use as predictors of
success in the real world.
The reason is that they were originally designed to test the kinds
of things that are learned in school -- therefore to say that they
predict future school success is simply circular reasoning.
Tests have been developed that measure Practical Intelligence --
that is, the skills financially successful people have, and they
do not correlate well with IQ scores.
Tests have been developed that measure Creativity. And if
creativity isn't a type of intelligence, then what is? But
creativity shows little correlation with IQ. It is possible to
have an IQ of 170 but no creative skills to speak of.
What this means is that IQ tests are measuring some aspects of
human intelligence, but they are limited and qualified by the
fact that they are also measuring nothing more than the educational
level you have progressed to.
26. Obsequious is to obstreporous as littoral is to _____________.
Tell me this: what if you have never seen any of those words in your
whole life? Are you going to get that question right? Nope.
So what is being tested here: your raw mental computing power or
your educational level?
