BG>Thanks for your interest in an AUDIO webpage. It will happen at some
BG>point, but a little stabilty in the personal life is necessary here
Since this echo generates very little noise, I would guess that as
long as it's still on the backbone, your regulars will keep it
neat and tidy.
BG>I think that merging the AUDIO echo with a moderated mailing list on
BG>the Internet will be a first step towards this goal and am investigating
The keyword is 'moderated.' As long as somebody intelligent is
in charge, like fr'instance this here echo I would welcome it.
BG>going on in there. Such as the 24 bit digital vs. analog discussions
BG>which I hope to talk about in here at some time.
I don't think the problem is 'digital' _in principle_. I think the
problem is that the CD format was frozen too early, and has too low
a sampling rate, and no A/D or D/A convertor can fix the problem.
I'm hoping that DVD or some other new format can push the sampling-
rate problems well beyond the range of audibility, and more bits will
provide the necessary level of detail.
Until then, I think that digital audio is pathetic. I used to work
in consumer electronics, and in all these years I've only heard two
CD players I can stand to listen to for more than 20 minutes
without my ears starting to hurt. One cost as much as my car
is worth, and the other, a Krell, would make the down payment on
a house. But I gotta admit, there ain't no surface noise....
