               International "TERMINAT" Conference Rules

Moderator : Steve Stacher, 2:443/888 (Fidonet)
                Moderator : Bo Bendtsen, bo{at}terminate.com

                    --- Last revised: 27 July 98 ---

   1. The topic in this conference is the terminal program Terminate
and/or utilities related to the that program, including 3rd Party
developed programs which directly support or enhance the use of
      Terminate.

   2. The use of the term "Terminate" within this conference is
restricted to defining a certain terminal program, the author of
which is Bo Bendtsen. Said program being commonly referred
      to and properly named: Terminate

Any other use, form of discussion, or reference to the term
"Terminate" is strictly forbidden, being limited to discussion(s)
of ONLY that specified program authored by Bo Bendtsen.

   3. This is an International Support Conference. All correspondence must
be in English. Commercial business inquiries, support, questions,
items for-sale, and other non-related information should be handled
via Crash NetMail or other media as indicated by the commercial
      distributors.

   4. Terminate "feature" announcements, inquiries, and the general
discussion of Terminate and/or related 3rd Party developed
software as defined above, to include program technical assistance
by others from within the conference, are welcome.

   5. Additional Gating of this conference into any network beyond
FidoNet is not permitted without written permission of the
Moderator and must be accompanied by a written verification of
Echolist database update before gating is allowed. Request for
such Gating should be directed to 2:443/888{at}fidonet.

   6. This conference is NOT limited to FidoNet; it is open to any
network and system that wishes to carry this conference (assuming
para. 5 is followed). Messages in this conference must conform
with the FTSC (FidoNet Technical Standards Committee) format and
must contain both tear and origin lines. The tear line may not be
longer than 35 characters including the --- characters. The origin
line must fit on one 80 character wide CRT including the " #
      Origin: " text.

   7. Please keep the amount of quoted text down to the BARE ESSENTIALS.
Do not quote SEEN-BY and/or " # Origin: " information unless it is
ABSOLUTELY necessary. One of the biggest costs with distributed
mail conferences is the use and ABUSE of the quote feature.

   8. Your message must contain sufficient information to allow a Reply
via NetMail through normal FidoNet distribution channels.

   9. Foul or harsh language is not tolerable and will not be accepted
as a standard for behavior within this conference. If you do not
like what someone has to say for personal reasons, send that
person(s) a reply using NetMail - not EchoMail.

  10. Eight-bit ASCII is not allowed in this conference. All characters
in displayed message data (text/header) must be in the range 32 to
126, which rules out control characters. The ONLY exceptions to
this rule are: if you need to show someone a translation table
that contains eight-bit ASCII, and/or the default TMAIL "arrow"
      signature style.

  11. File listings and advertisements are not welcome except from
authorized Terminate dealers, or from the author of Terminate. 3rd
Party developers whose programs directly support or enhance the
use of Terminate are specifically excluded from this paragraph.
Sample files and examples of batch files are welcome as they serve
      a useful and constructive purpose.

  12. Please keep "Thank you" and "This is a test"
messages in NETMAIL,
where they belong. People are paying a lot of money to
Import/Export this conference around the world, and if we can keep
unnecessary overhead down, everyone will be much happier.

  13. Before posting queries and/or questions about problems and their
solution, please make sure you have read the documentation for the
program in question. All too frequently, the questions asked can
be answered by simply reading a few paragraphs in the program's
      documentation.

  14. There is currently one Moderator. Co-Moderators may be assigned as
needed. If you have a problem with someone, please inform a
Moderator about it; Do NOT post "Flames", etc. in this
      conference!!

  15. Messages in the Terminat conference are expected to remain "On
Topic" at ALL times. Messages not related to the actual use of,
technical support of, or related programs and utilities of,
Terminate are specifically NOT allowed in this conference.

  16. If any of the official moderators inform you that your message(s)
are "Off Topic", or request that you take your theme to NetMail,
      please do so.

THE "TERMINAT" CONFERENCE FAQ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

                     --- Last revised: 27 July 98 ---

   Q : What is a FAQ ?
A : Well, this is a FAQ. FAQ is short for Frequently Asked Question.
This is a list of frequently asked questions about Terminate and
TerMail, in order to answer a lot of questions within one single
document. Therefore a 'newbee' can easily learn a lot within a short
       period of time.

   Q: What is Terminate ?
A: Terminate is a communication program, a fax program, a fidonet mailer
      program, a tosser/scanner/packer, a QWK offline reader, a filemanager,
a mini-bbs, a programming language and much much more...

Q: What is the story about these false versions ?
A: A person that used to be a dealer of Terminate was thrown out and
because of that, he decided to invent a story about having
bought the copyright and trademark. He hired some young Russian
programmers to make false freeware versions only to annoy me, fidonet
and all the other users of the real Terminate.
The current false versions in circulation are:
        1.56 1.57 1.58 1.59 1.60, 1.70

   Q : I'm not sure what's what, so what is what ?
A : There is sometimes a little confusion about what is Terminate,
Terminate's point-system and TerMail. In order to communicate
clearly I'll show you some screen-shots of these parts of the
program. I have cut some pieces in order to make the FAQ smaller,
but that shouldn't be any problem.

   Q : What is a point ?
A : A point is a person (above all :-) ) who has got some experience
with FIDO-net and wanted to spend less money on his hobby. He got
some software (like Terminate & TerMail) and arranged with a sysop
(node) to become his 'boss'. The point can now login very fast on
the BBS and get his mail. This is done completely automatic, and
thus very fast, and thus very cheap. All his mail is already packed
saving even more money. You don't have to be a wizzkid to become a
point, but a little experience using computers and FIDO-net will
proof to be helpful. Look for TERPOINT.ZIP for more info about
       points.

   Q : I have a modem that Terminate doesn't seem to support, can't I use
       Terminate ?
A : Of course you can use Terminate, but when Terminate was released
your modem wasn't released yet. You will have to use the Generic
modem. Normally the default settings should work just fine. If you
still can't get it to work, you will have to come up with your own
init-string. Ask for it in a modem echo, there are a lot of people
who can help you there. And remember it doesn't really matter which
program you are using, the settings will be the same with every
program. If you find good settings, Netmail them to Bo Bendtsen, so
he can put them in the next version. This way we all help to make
Terminate even better. To test if your modem is Terminate compatible
enter the following command on the terminal screen
"TERMINAT" if your
modem responds "OK" then it is alright.

Q : AVATAR/ANSI doesn't seem to work within Terminate, all the screens I
receive from a BBS are unreadable, or my modem locks up, what should
       I do ?
A : Most of the time this can be solved by disabling Xon-Xoff software
flow control. You can do this from the Options menu (ALT-O),
Communications Setup, and then choose your modem. Make sure you turn
of Software flow control (Xon/Xoff) in your modem's settings as
well. You also have to turn ON Hardware flowcontrol CTS/RTS. If it
still doesn't work setup Terminate to use only ANSI for this
particular BBS. In that case make sure the BBS only sends you
       ANSI-screens.

   Q : What about Terminate in Windows 3.1x / Win9?
A : While it's a DOS program and therefore works best under DOS, you can
use it under MS-Windows 3.1x. Testing has shown that it works well
for most of us under Windows for Workgroups v3.11. Windows 3.10 and
Windows 3.11 are not different on the comm's part. Windows for
Workgroups however is much better suited for communications. You
should use Windows for Workgroups v3.11 if you can. I've heard from
some people Terminate performs well under Windows95/98.

   Q : What about Terminate in OS/2 ?
A : It can be done of course but you'll need special comm's drivers. The
best you can use are the SIO-drivers made by Ray Gwinn (SIO145.*)
Same as with Windows, maybe in the future there will be an OS/2
       version.

Q : What is the strange version number I sometimes see ?
A : This could be internal test version that the testers are allowed
to use before releasing. The test numbers will look like this:
       Alpha version 4.99a01 01 = Revision number 1
       Beta version 4.99b03 03 = Revision number 3
       Gamma version 4.99g09 09 = Revesion number 9
The entire test procedure for Terminate is entensive and
would take to long to explain, just remember it is done proberly
       and that takes time.

Q : When is the next version coming out ?
A : Version 5 may be the last full release. A patch to correct some
minor defects is currently being developed.
