HI Richard,

Well, if your throwing away a truck 12bolt, (or 14 bolt, or dana 60) throw
it on my driveway would ya? =)
> The gear set and locker came from a friend who had it for sale, the

Having friends with parts they don't want anymore always helps.
Unfortuneatly, mine want to keep the parts I want. =)
>>It always is. Once you do have it completed, theres that darn upkeep.

>Ewww, low blow! I never wash it (it's black) I just wait until it rains
>and go for a drive ;>
Since your out on the west coast, thats not much of a problem, you get rain,
what? every 2 hours or so? =)
> They would, we are talking acid dip frame whole shebang here.
Maybe you should talk to them again, let them know your not after a full
blown restoration, but a body that is solid, and painted right.
>But I am not interested in that level! I want someone to correct my

Keep up the leg work. Ask friends. Ask people at car meets.
I've got my next bodyman lined up this way, (all the old codgers that did my
work are now out of the business-)--speaking of which, be slightly wary of
bodyshops that are now in the hands of the children. They are more into the
business end of things, rather than the take your time and put some care
into it. My dad knew a bodyman here, his kids now run the place, I went
there with my dad at the time (you know, get a friends discount ;) ) but,
be darned if these "kids" would be somewhat more sociable, its money money
money. And I see it in all sorts of business. I'm running out of contacts!
When retirement hits one parts counter guy I know, I'm back to paying list
price on things. Blah!
(Priced a rag joint at the dealership yesterday, $89--for that circular bit
of "tire" that goes between the steering shaft and steering box. Went
exploring and found that Motormite has the thing for 11 bucks--probably not
as good, but at least I can afford more than one)
> I guess I can save up 3000 if I leave it until next year.
>The rear quarters are pristine, the wheel wells were replaced with

Yes, I would say save up some more, then you know you can go for a better
shop than cut an extra corner and go to something not quite up to your
standards.
Okay, better refresh my memory on what you want done, cause I am currently
thinking that it was your rear quarter panels that where shot.
> Sounds like you have a far better quality of bodymen :>
Just luck I think. Talking to the right person for recomendations.
>I have checked out some of the shops here, most with little success.
Thats the way it is. Thats why I said, LOTS of legwork. Don't expect to
find somebody in a month.
>Some are obvious ICBC insurance shops, others are ma and pa deals that I
>get scared looking at the "show" cars. I have found one that does fairly
>top notch work but they still seem far beyond my range price wise asking
Ya... "Show Cars"... That just brings home the fact most people have much
lower standards than yourself when it comes to doing things. Things they
might term over-doing it... I get extremely finicky with fasteners on my
cars. When I was redoing the front underside of my car I painted every bolt
I took out (baked it to) to have it blend in. I hate watching people work
on stuff half-a**ed, leave out washers, use screw-drills to start screws (I
can hear the threads crying in agony) But that could be a whole other
topic.
>coupe's etc. to take on the project but although they do excellent work
>they are alway's to busy. I think one thing that REALLY works against me
Then I suggest you get yourself on the waiting list and be patient, I'd
rather wait a year to get into a good shop. Just think long term when your
feel that your starting to get anxious.
>is that I am only 21, though I have one completed restoration, a
>dragster and this car here under my belt most shops don't take me
>seriously and seem to think I am wasting their time.
Personally, I don't think age will play that big a part in it. I was 23 when
I took on my big bodyshop hunt. If your serious about your car, and take
pride in it, it will show, and it will show, and reciprocate when you find
that good bodyshop. Just be patient.
> I thank you greatly for your advice, This is the first time I have had
>to deal with this. My cousin in Orangeville Ont. did my first
yes, its an extremely frustrating expedition.
>But I will keep looking in the summer when the Tempest comes out of
>storage, at least it is able to impress alot more people now that the
>driveline is done ;>
Hunh? Your in BC...its not like you have salt thrown on the streets to melt
ice..As if you guys out there even have a "winter". =)
> (Coming soon: should I go to the big block...)
