DA>EP> Sure. Lets take that statement (keep it in the thread) and examine
DA>EP> it. You haven't said NRA compromises. You've said NRA *LIKES*
DA>EP> compromises. Anyone who actually *WON'T* compromise will be
DA>EP> destroyed the first defeat they suffer. You and I both compromise;
DA>EP> otherwise we'd be in revolt right now. EP
DA>That depends on what you intend to compromise on. The first thing you
DA>have to remember about politics is that there is no such thing as a
DA>final victory or a final defeat. As long as your compromise doesn't
DA>preclude going to battle again, you haven't given up anything essential.
DA>That means that you have to sit down and determine what your essential
DA>position is and measure all of your political activity against that
DA>standard.
Maybe I should explain what I mean by "compromising". If a bad
law (one that directly infringes upon our rights) is introduced
and we fight it, but lose, our choices are:
(1). No compromise. That means literally going to war
immediately. ANYTHING ELSE is a compromise to some degree or
other.
(2). Compromise; but work to overturn the bad law.
(3). Roll over.
Your tactics are the correct ones. EP
DA>The problem with politics is that too many people wind up with their
DA>essential position boiled down to "*I* must retain my political power."
DA>Such people are willing to sell out anybody and sacrifice anything else
DA>to retain their power.
Thats the addictive nature of power. :-( EP
DA>Sometimes, you *do* have to take a no compromise position, even when you
DA>can't win, because it's the only way to keep your core values intact. At
DA>least with a solid core, you have something left to build on when you go
DA>to battle again. Abandoning your core values leaves you with battling
DA>over power alone.

As I said; anything less than an immediate call to arms IS a
compromise. As to the legislative (and a lot of other) things:
"Sometimes you have to stand in front of the bulldozer and let
it run over you. You fight; not because you think you can win,
but because some things are worth fighting over." Ernie P.
