SC>> You are talking about high school here, correct? I know here SC>> there isn't a choice of classes at the elementary school level. SC>> I'm not sure there was much of a choice of teachers at the high SC>> school level. Maybe a second teacher taught the same course, but SC>> you didn't get to choose unless there was a problem. DC> No, there are different allowable curricula. They ended up DC> taking what amounts to Basket Weaving 101. I guess every state has their own laws on this. SC>> That is where the school should have stepped in. It is illegal SC>> anywhere for kids to miss that much school. Here the parents SC>> could be arrested for the kid not attending school. One woman SC>> actually spent time in jail for it. DC> Again, not in this state. It was termed "an excused absense". Oh ok. She did inform the school the kids would be out then??? That would be acceptable here too. I do know that if a kid is absent for any reason a certain amount of days though they have to hold the kid back in the same grade. That would be excused or non-excused absents. The only way to get around that is for the parents to get a tutor for the kid to do the school work while they were out.
