I'd add that you might want to try a different slot.  I have an
adaptec AHA-2940U2W and it won't run correctly in one of the slots,
although it doesn't trap, it just won't see the devices attached.

For termination it depends on how you have your devices chained. 
Mine requires a terminator and won't work correctly without it. 
The last device in the chain needs to be terminated, either on the
device, typically with a jumper, or with a terminator.

Of the suggestions I think running mem is the easiest to do.  Just
start running it and let it go.
