When we planted our tomato seedlings, my huband buried a 2 litre
plastic pop bottle, punched with a few holes, about 3 to 4 inches away
from each seedling. Now, when rain is short, we water through those
bottles and feel that the roots are getting well watered. Often top
water does not get down deep enough. The tomatoes are doing well
enough.
