| subject: | M34F problems |
Hi Paul,
I sent today a message to Blaise. It will also answer the
question you did ask.
-=> Quoting Blaise Habgood to Gery Rohrig <=-
-> -> that Avtek modem that doesn't want to shake hands with the M34F.
BH> Sounds like we should get the modem into myself for a check up?
BH> Does this sound fine?
Yep it does. And it is what we agreed on at the show. I just have to
know where to I should sent it. I'm going on the end of April away
and wouldn't miss it then.
There is just one other thing and please correct me if I'm wrong.
That modem of mine does work faultless except it does not connect to
a M34F. As it does connect to other netcomm modems and also to other
brand modems, I suspect that the problem may by with the M34F. This
got confirmed as I followed other messages about the M34F. On of the
complainant has a BBS and sent me the following replay:

GR> answer jet.
I'll add it to my list if you can call my number, 02-436-1785,
3 times, and get the same problem, and then also call 02-878-3755
(Netcomm) three times, for comparison. I have a Maestro SE 9600
caller experiencing 95% failure rates connecting to my M34F, but
he has no problem calling the Netcomm BBS. Perhaps it's a
generic V32 problem with calling an M34F on "bad" lines (assuming
my lines have some characteristic which makes them different from
Netcomm's lines), I don't know. If you fail to connect to me, it
will add weight to that theory. Crikey, Avtek is Netcomm too, so
there's only one place to point the finger if that's the case. I
hope you will take the time to do the tests I described, so that
we can document this scientifically. BFN. Paul.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I did call his number about 12 to 15 times and never got a connect.
On your BBS I do connect 4 times out of 5. How ever his assumption that
bad lines has any thing to do with it is wrong in my case, as the
Mailexchange M34F modem on line 1, I can't connect to, is on the same
telephone exchange as my line.
--------------------------------------------
As you see above I rung your Number 436-1785 at leased 12 times and
every time it went through the whole handshaking ritual 3 times and
then the time was up. On the Netcomm BBS I have less problems, how
ever I do not know what modems they using.
Regards Gery
