Ah, this sounds suspiciosly like the old date set ahead problem.  Possibly 
you've set your clock ahead recently.  Opus hasn't actually hung, it's just 
sitting there in a tight loop counting seconds ... for hours.  
You need to delete the magic file which may be either or both of COMMON.DAT 
(if you have one) and/or SCHED.DAT <-- where your events are stored so watch 
out!
