| subject: | Dynalink modems |
Phillip, at 00:49 on Feb 02 1997, you wrote to Bill Grimsley... PS> Hi Bill, I am considering buying a dynalink modem. Seems you could do a hell of a lot worse these days. PS> I was wondering if you could tell me what model you have and give PS> me your opinion on it. I was planning on getting an internal model. Askey's invoice describes it as a "1433 33.6kbps internal modem", and although there is no specific model number actually printed on the box, the model I have is referred to as an "internal half-card", is manufactured by (or for) Texas Instruments (using the TI DSP chipset), and is also much the same modem which US Robotics market as one of their Sportster models. Prior to buying the Dynalink, I owned a couple of 33k6 Sportsters and a 33k6 Courier, and they ALL performed equally as well as each other IMO (and much better than any Rockwell-based modems have from this particular site). PS> I have an external Maestro ZXR 2400 at the moment and am sick to death of PS> all the extra cables, plug packs etc. Same here, although I must admit that I've always tended to favour internals anyway, especially now that modems are so reliable in general. As you'll appreciate, both types have their own distinct advantages, so IMO it's basically a matter of buying the type which you think will suit you best.
