On 2008/01/08 22:46 (GMT-0500) Julian Thomas apparently typed: > Am I better off with 1 gb of memory running as DDR400 or 1.25 GB at DDR > 333? My mobo (Asus K8VSE Deluxe) has 3 ram slots, but if you populate all > three, it won't do DDR400. I'm not sure about this, but just a few days ago I was doing some testing that made me believe DDR400 won't happen with all chips. I don't have any 400 FSB AMD chips to test with, but I suspect that either: 1-DDR400 RAM might not run above DDR333 unless the CPU is a 400 FSB chip, and/or 2-Dual Channel might not be supported by pre-400 FSB chips. When I've checked with memtest86+ boards that do support dual channel, I've found the speed of dual channel over normal to be well under 10%. If have use for more than 1GB, I'd suggest going for it rather than the small speed advantage, but otherwise it seems like only .25G more wouldn't be worth any speed disadvantage. -- "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
