Hammer Myshare N1200 HN1200-1000 NAS drive
Specs: 2 physical drives (Samsung) 500 GB each. Can configure as raid
mirrored, striped, or joined into one 1 TB drive.
Access protocols:
FTP
CIFS, SMB, NFS
HTTP/HTTPS
My unit, purchased in November from NewEgg (who had the best price just
under $400US) was at firmware level 1.3.1 (see below).
The instructions are quite specific to Windows users, and I followed them
long enough to log in to the device (which runs some form of Linux) and
set it to a fixed IP address. Once I had done that, I could access it from
a browser using the IP address, and further configure it.
I found that, using ftp, I was unable to store anything on the device
until I went back and logged in from firefox and created a 'share' called
top. I was then able to access the device and transfer files to it. I then
created a directory under top called 'bu' and below that had 4
subdirectories.
I had much better luck using netdrive along with the new FileStar release;
I could create directories under /top and move stuff to them. However, ftp
wouldn't go below /top for file transfer, although I could coax it into
listing a subdirectory.
WinXP filesharing works well with the device, and I can navigate down the
directory tree.

part of the problem is in the permissions. The permissions for bu are 700,
which doesn't make for being able to navigate down.
I sent email to the support address, and was gratified to get a quick
response. The gist of it was that they had pulled 1.3.1 from the firmware
download site, and would have a replacement sometime 'in 2008'.
There's no access via telnet or SSH, unfortunately, and a quick google
search didn't turn up any hacks.
Bottom line: Nice device. I haven't tried it with SMB except from WinXP,
where it seems to work well. I'll wait for the next firmware release, or
try to get it working with Samba in the meantime.
